My name is Hilda and I like to write. So much so that I made a career out of it, from news and cultural journalism to copywriting to marketing communications. After moving to Berlin in 2007, I learned German and starting doing translation work, too.
From covering the crime beat at one of Canada’s biggest newspapers to wading in a Bohemian lake with Czech fishermen at the crack of dawn or reviewing Berlin’s latest Michelin-starred dining, I’ve written about a wide variety of topics for a wide variety of publications and platforms, always driven by curiosity about people and this weird and wonderful world we live in.
Living and working abroad comes naturally to me — one could say it’s in my blood. I’m half Canadian (hi dad) and half Taiwanese (hi mom) and grew up in Taiwan speaking both Mandarin Chinese and English. Not long after earning a BA in English literature and an MA in journalism in Canada, I moved to Europe and haven’t looked back. After spending nearly two years in Prague, I have called Berlin home for the last 10 years.
